EJ Jones, Cheer Director

About:

EJ is a returning coach and former deputy director for American Pride Cheerleading.  She is originally from Chicago but has considered northern Virginia home for 25 years. She is a proud graduate of Penn State and Roosevelt University. EJ works at a higher education association and is adjunct faculty at NOVA. She has two daughters who cheer for APC.

 

Background:

Coach EJ started cheerleading in 6th grade, continued in high school and through college. Her high school squad hosted cheer clinics as well as participated in Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) summer camps. EJ was a member 1991 UCA All-Star Team. While in college she coached summer spirit camps in Rota, Spain for the UNI Camp Adventure Program.

 

Motivation:

“A good cheerleader is not measured by the height of her jumps but the span of her spirit.” Cheerleading teaches important life values such as preparation, dedication and working together as a team; it’s simply practice for the larger arena of life.

 

Fun Fact:

She is undeniably fanatical about 3 things in life…the greatness of the Dallas Cowboys, the awesomeness of Wonder Woman, and power of pineapple.

 

 

 

Stephanie Currie, Deputy Cheer Director
Juniors Head Coach

About:

Coach Stephanie is an original Bronx, New York native; however, she has lived/traveled throughout various parts of the country (predominately in the Southeast).  Spending most of her adolescent years in Northern Virginia, she is a proud Annandale High School alumnus.  Stephanie attended The American College for the Applied Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, majoring in Advertising. Later, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she pursued Human Resources Management with a concentration in Payroll.

 

Background:

Stephanie cheered in high school for the Annandale Atoms, and performed alongside her cheer sisters in state competitions.  She began cheer coaching in 2012 with APYFL.  In 2013, APYFL named Stephanie Cheer Coach of the Year, for her amazing leadership and zeal for her squad to succeed regardless of any obstacles that stood in their way.

 

Motivation:

Stephanie’s coaching motivation comes from her giving spirit and her compassion to mentor young individuals to be the best that they can be.  Stephanie’s goal is to make sure that her squad knows the power of self-worth and teamwork.  There are several mottos that she instills in her squad year after year…two of her favorites:  “Practice how you perform” and “You are great cheerleaders because you believe in you…more importantly, your coaches and your family believe in you…”  You do not need to have the highest jump, the best stunt, or the loudest voice, Stephanie believes if you work hard for your coaches, they will work hard for you!

 

Fun Fact:

She has one son and a myriad of ‘adopted’ children who call her Momma Bear.

 

 

 

Latoiya Dumont, Minis Head Coach

About:

Latoyia is a returning for her second season of coaching with APC. She is a wife, mom of 3, and business owner. When she's not driving minions to practices, attending board meetings, and driving her husband insane; you can find her singing horribly to songs on Smule.

Background:

While her background is in softball, when Latoyia's daughter expressed an interest in cheerleading instead of lacing up cleats, this mom received a crash course in cheer.

Motivation:

Latoyia's motivation, the kids. Watching their self confidence grow as a squad, as individuals, is why she as returned to coach.

Fun Fact:

Latoyia's favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
 

 

 

Tiffany Perry, Minis Assistant Coach

About:

Tiffany is a cheer mom and new coach with APC. She was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL and later moved to the DMV area after graduating from Tuskegee University where she earned her B.S. in Accounting. Tiffany also has a MBA from the University of South Florida and works as a Pricing Analyst for a Government Contractor.

 

Background:

Coach Tiffany started her cheerleading career on a little league team called Western Tigers in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This organization taught her the fundamentals of cheerleading which equipped her with the skills to later go on and make her middle school, high school and college cheerleading squads. Tiffany has competed in many competitions and has received numerous awards.

 

Motivation:

Cheerleading has always been a passion of Tiffany's and she wants to share that passion with the youth. Athletes lift weights; Cheerleaders lift Athletes!

 

Fun Fact:

Tiffany currently has patent-pending status with the United States Patent  and Trademark Office for her Invention; Fingers crossed!!!!

 

 

 

Maryssa Alexander, Minis Assistant Coach (Fall)

About:

Maryssa is from Columbus, OH and moved to Dumfries in 2015. She has an AA in Paralegal Studies from Bradford School and currently pursuing a B.A. in HR Management/Project Management at Kaplan University.

 

Background:

Coach Maryssa cheered for 7 years when she was younger for the JT Falcons and the Krumm Park Packers in Columbus, OH.

 

Motivation:

Family has motivated her to coach because her niece cheers and her son play’s football. She will be out at the field daily and loves to help out the organization and the kids. Maryssa finds coaching rewarding because she is motivating and helping the cheerleaders work hard, show support, and be all they can be. Most girls dream of cheer and dance, so to be a part of that is special.  It’s a great feeling knowing that they are working towards something they love! Squad goals include having fun, giving it your all, remembering and recognizing all their motions and jumps, being loud and proud, and be beautiful doing it!

 

Fun Fact:

She attend Victory Christian Ministries International in Woodbridge VA, has 2 children, loves football (Dallas Cowboys & Oregon Ducks), loves to read books and hang out with her kiddos!

 

 

 

Stacey Lawson, Petites Coach

About:

Stacey Lawson was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Woodbridge with her husband and two children. This is her 3rd year as an AP Cheer Coach and strives to be a positive role model for the youth of AP Cheer. 

 

Background:

As Jr. High and High School cheer captain, she developed a love for teaching and leading a squad. In college, Stacey participated on a cheer team and facilitated cheer camps for many high school squads.

Motivation:

Coach Stacey is an advocate for youth involvement in sports. She is committed to fostering a positive environment and developing athletic skill, self-confidence, and healthy camaraderie on her cheer squad.

 

Fun Fact:

She loves competitive sports, and participated in basketball, softball, and cheerleading throughout her school years.

 

 

 

Sierra Bedregal, Petites Coach (Fall)

About:

Coach Sierra is from Woodbridge, VA where she is a proud alumni of CD Hylton High School! Sierra attended Shepherd University majoring in Elementary Education and continued her education in Management of Human Resources. 

 

Background:

Sierra cheered her whole life in various cheerleading organizations and topped off her cheerleading career as a Varsity Hylton Cheerleader. Sierra began coaching last year (2015) with APYFL. 

 

Fun Fact:

Sierra and her college sweetheart husband, Josh, have 3 beautiful daughters that you can spot cheering on the sidelines during each game and practice. 

 

 

 

Tiffany Hay, Ittys Coach

About:

Tiffany is in the United States Marine Corps. She started coaching 2 years ago while stationed in Okinawa, Japan for Okinawa Youth Football. She was then stationed in Quantico, VA and coached last year for Stafford county parks and recreation; both teams won 1st place at their cheer competitions.

 

Background:

Tiffany started cheering in middle school at the age of 12 and all the way through high school. She mentored at junior cheerleading camps freshmen through junior year summers. Her most memorable cheer moment was being able to learn her first back handspring and then getting the girls she coached to learn as well.

 

Motivation:

Coach Tiffany loves teaching young minds about the sport that she cares deeply for; she also enjoys bringing young girls together to learn to depend on each other. Her goals for her squad, “Our elbows are locked, toes are pointed and that we hit all of our moves!”

 

Fun Fact:

She tends to mix her Japanese, Spanish, and English languages a lot!

 

 

 

Jordyn Thompson, Juniors Assistant Coach

About:

Jordyn is a new coach with APC and a senior at Woodbridge Senior High School. She plays tennis,  loves going to concerts and helping others by volunteering.
 
Background: Coach Jordyn did gymnastics as a child and was on the middle school dance team for 2 years. She was a cheerleader her 8th grade year. She went back to gymnastics but focused on the tumbling aspect of it the most. She cheered again her sophomore year of high school and started teaching gymnastics and tumbling to children at Gymnastics World in Lake Ridge.
 

Motivation:

She has a passion for cheerleading because it provided her with confidence and helped her to come out of her "shell". She wants to teach kids to have fun and learn but in a safe way! It's a rewarding feeling to see progress in the athletes and see them grow as individuals and cheerleaders! Her goal is for the kids to make friends and develop a love for the sport the way she did!

Fun Fact:

Jordyn speaks German and hosted a German exchange student, who is now her best friend!


 

Michelle Mclean, Juniors Assistant Coach (Fall)

About:

Coach Michelle is a proud mom of 3 children. When she is not “ubering” her children all over NOVA, she is working at Allstate Ins "Wybersky and Associates" as a Licensed Sales Producer (so if you are ever trying to see if there is anything cheaper out there for you re insurance, give HER a call).

 

Background:

Her skills as a cheer coach have stemmed and grown from being a cheer mom for the last 3 years. This is her second year as assistant coach. Her highlights of cheer have been the Pep Rally performances and watching her daughter grow year by year into a FANTASTIC cheerleader.

 

Motivation:

Michelle is motivated coaching beside one of her closest friends and watching the girls as they mold them into better cheerleaders. She enjoys everything about the kids and even on her down days they always put a smile on her face!!

 

Fun Fact:

Coach Michelle is German born and raised and moved to Augusta, GA at the age of 16. And she LOVES roller coasters!!

 

 


Elizabeth Gillman, Ittys Assistant Coach (Fall)

About:

Coach Elizabeth is from Woodbridge, VA and is a proud alumni of C.D. Hylton High school. She later attended George Mason University, where she received a degree in Psychology. Elizabeth currently works for the USO-Metro as the Special Events Coordinator.

 

Background:

Elizabeth cheered all four years of high school and began coaching in 2006 for the Northern Virginia Tigers competition squad.

 

Motivation:

She joined American Pride in August of 2016, as assistant coach for the Ittys, and hopes to instill knowledge and the love of cheering in her squad.

 

Fun Fact:

When she’s not working or coaching cheerleading, she enjoys practicing yoga and traveling to new places.
